Mindful and Multicultural Counseling

I love helping people learn skills to live their most authentic life. I would love to help you connect with all part of yourselves in a compassionate way and acquire tools where you feel more in control of your emotions, experience satisfying relationships and feel confident in your ability to solve problems, navigate transitions in your life and achieve your goals. We would work through issues related to trauma, attachment, anxiety, depression, abandonment, shame, anger, addiction, self-harm, emotional eating, sleep and anything else you are struggling with using an integrative approach that utilizes mindfulness, DBT, relational and trauma focused principles.

I use a mindfulness based approach to help people learn how to be more present in their life and more connected to their bodies as our bodies often tell a story of our life experiences.  I am intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and a registered yoga teacher. I have had training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (body oriented approach to treatment of trauma using mindfulness), Polyvagal theory (how our nervous system responds to our environment) and Developmental Model for Couples Therapy.

For many years I was the director of a partial hospital/intensive outpatient program that was focused on treating women who had experienced trauma so I have experience treating complex ptsd and dissociative disorders.  I implemented Dialectical Behavior Therapy in that program.  I am able to provide comprehensive DBT (individual therapy, phone coaching, skills, consultation team) or a DBT informed approach if that seems to be a good fit.

I actively work to be culturally sensitive and competent to be inclusive of all cultures and identities and to meet you where you are in your journey.

LGBTQ friendly

I use a variety of mind-body approaches in sessions depending on what will help a client best achieve their treatment goals.  Sometimes there is a need for more problem solving and skill building and other times more acceptance, compassion and supportive therapy.

I facilitate mindfulness and medtiation workshops in the community, on college campuses and for businesses.

I also provide clinical supervision and presentations in the community.

I teach yoga classes promoting mindfulness and acceptance of one's body and ability.  See mindfulness and yoga pages for more details.
